Book Forty-Five

August 1, 2014 @ Carol's

The Lacuna, by Barbara Kingsolver

Yay for Cora Lee!  She was the sole spirit who read the book - I think she deserves a prize.
The globe is a foreshadowing of the content of the rest of the gathering!

A book club activity!  Where in the world will Jackie's first post with the State Department be?

I'm thinking I look a little like Waldo, after all.  I just need a beanie and a dapper cane.

OMG.  Who knew that a common PJB could be elevated to such heights!  Peanut butter, Nutella, Marshmallow Fluff, Bananas - pan-fried.

Yes! Yes! Yes!  (I'll have what she's having!)

Zoe and Cocoa - not interested in the Spirits shenanigans.

Five of Seven!  How I'll miss these women.  Skype, anyone?

 Our next meeting:

Book Forty-Four

June 20, 2014 @ Stacey's

Anne of Green Gables, by L.M. Montgomery

Anne's story was an enjoyable throw-back to our childhoods.  We now collectively want to travel to Prince Edward Island.
Gorgeous poppies in Stacey's tranquil backyard oasis.

Anne (with an "E") and Carol (without an "E") eager to debate the pros and cons of Gilbert Blythe.

Some kind of lemonade-vodka summer concoction, generously provided by Stacey.  Elmer and I will have more than one, please.

Cory's illustrated copy.

Ella's portrait of her mom - a photographer is born!

The following six portraits are compliments of Ella - a true artistic natural:

Ella and Haley and their companions.

Six of Seven, tempted to climb the ladder and spend the night in the tree house.

Making friends with the trees.

Book Forty-Three

May 23rd @ Jackie's

The Name of the Wind, by Patrick Rothfuss

Just three Spirits slogged through the book, but two of those three intend to continue to the next book in the trilogy.
That says something, right?  :)

Cheers!  To spring, to book club, to the State Department register!

Supposedly a watermelon kiss.  Didn't taste like watermelon, unfortunately,
but we did feel the love and were able to choke down a few.

Gelato and mini-Milanos - YUM!

Setting up the camera - our true colors?

The Magnificent Seven, together at last!

Book Forty-Two

April 26, 2014 @ Anne's

The Enchanted April, by Elizabeth Von Arnim

Complete with macaroons!

We could have opted for tea in keeping with the book and its plethora of Englishwomen as Anne did, but at least four of us chose coffee!

Cory, adding the pesto!

Yummy frittata!  (Thanks, Kevin!)

I love this photo of Stacey and Sally!

As promised, Anne assembled the ingredients to create temporary tattoos!  Voila!  This gathering's craft!

Tracing a tattoo design ....

Anne sketching in the artwork.

Anne is committed to her work (and what great work she does, too!).

You can see the tattoo on Jackie's collarbone as she inks Anne's foot.

Carol and Anne = FRIENDS.  (And in more than one language!)

And bonus!  These tattoos are not permanent, so we will not have to resort to Turlington's!
Check out Turlington's here!

Six of seven spirits, some with fresh artwork!  Perhaps we could have our own reality show:  Lander (temporary) Ink!

Unfortunately we were unable to imbibe Watermelon Kisses, due to a lack of strawberry liqueur ...
in the entire county, as far as I know!
But I'm working on it for next time!

Book Forty-One

March 21, 2014 @ Cora Lee's

Bel Canto, by Ann Patchett

A colorful sensational delight - both the fruit and the fermented product of the fruit - await the stalwart Literary Spirit!

Gorgeous greens were the foundation for a refreshing chef's salad.  Eating the salad made us feel less guilty for indulging in the blueberry tarts and limoncello gelato that came afterwards.

My guilty pleasure.  I. Can. Not. say no to warm bread and butter.  Cora Lee, my thighs thank you.

Okay, so a little slow moving, but lyrical.  Can two people fall in love in the absence of a common language?  Sally's answer: "Their common language was Braille."

Anne, contemplating the next book club choice:  Lolita?  Ayn Rand?  Barbara Cartland?

Cory, providing the necessary modeling for the remote photo shoot.  And what a good job she does, too.

Anne and Cory in their natural habitat.  :)

It's kind of hard to blindly aim a camera without looking into the viewfinder.  TAKE ONE.

TAKE TWO.

TAKE THREE.  Not quite right.

And here we are:  Six of Seven Spirits.  What a good looking bunch.
