Just three Spirits slogged through the book, but two of those three intend to continue to the next book in the trilogy.
That says something, right?  :)

but we did feel the love and were able to choke down a few.

We could have opted for tea in keeping with the book and its plethora of Englishwomen as Anne did, but at least four of us chose coffee!

As promised, Anne assembled the ingredients to create temporary tattoos!  Voila!  This gathering's craft!

Book Forty-One

Bel Canto, by Ann Patchett

 

A colorful sensational delight - both the fruit and the fermented product of the fruit - await the stalwart Literary Spirit!

Gorgeous greens were the foundation for a refreshing chef's salad.  Eating the salad made us feel less guilty for indulging in the blueberry tarts and limoncello gelato that came afterwards. 

My guilty pleasure.  I. Can. Not. say no to warm bread and butter.  Cora Lee, my thighs thank you.

Okay, so a little slow moving, but lyrical.  Can two people fall in love in the absence of a common language?  Sally's answer: "Their common language was Braille."

Anne, contemplating the next book club choice:  Lolita?  Ayn Rand?  Barbara Cartland?

Cory, providing the necessary modeling for the remote photo shoot.  And what a good job she does, too.

A festive holiday table: a fitting atmosphere to discuss a murder. :)

While there wasn't a lot of mayhem or bad language, we don't think this should be classified as a young adult novel.

Supposedly this is Jimmy Fallon's chili recipe.  Jimmy should rethink the amount of hamburger, we think, but it was still tasty.

Calvin.  He didn't contribute to the conversation so much, but his presence added to the holiday cheer.

The double meaning of the title wasn't lost on us.  Sure, Alice forgot who she was because of a blow to the head.  But she had forgotten who she was before that.  A really good read!
